The first time I used it I made two batches and then last night made 6. The machine freezes very fast, twenty minutes seems typical. Some small batches with the bowl pre-chilled around 10. Made a batch of frozen daiquiri, which took a bit longer. I am very happy with the time to freeze.Also the ice cream and sorbets are very smooth. With recipies as simple as blended fruit and a little syrup (Raw Agave) the ice crystals are very fine and the texture smoother than many other sorbets I have made. The machine has enough torque to freeze these very solid, which greatly helps with keeping them spoonable after storing overnight in the freezer. As for the cleaning some people have complained that the unit is tough to clean because the bowl is not removable. I have not had any problems and can clean it in a couple of minutes. My issue was one of time (lack of) so I wanted a product that could quickly accomplish this while entertaining, etc.Pro: Gets ice cream and sorbet's on your plate in 20 mins. Up to 6 quarts an hour. Cons: Big unit and the bowl is non-removable so clean up is a mild pain. It doesn't spin fast enough to be an ice cream maker, but this also means you get a richer, denser product. If you're like me, you'll appreciate not having so much of the volume being air.The bowl does not come out which makes cleanup a little difficult, and the dasher does not have a silicone edge. The upside is that you don't get tiny pieces of silicone in your product (what do you think is happening when it wears out?), but the downside is that you should use the spatula to scrape the bowl at least once before you finish with the automation. I've been using this unit for months though with fantastic result. Vanilla Grand Marnier Sorbet, Rum Raisin and Baily's Gelatos, all come out beautifully. I mention these in particular because I did not skimp on the alcohol, and it still froze just fine. If you can afford it, I highly recommend one. |
